Why is going short essential?

Many retail investors are accustomed to one way of investing: buying and waiting for the price to rise. In traditional markets, we call this “going long”.

However, professional strategies work differently.

In addition to long positions, we also use short positions. Going short means that a strategy can benefit when the price of an asset falls.

When markets correct sharply – as we saw earlier this year – a well-designed strategy can not only protect capital, but even generate returns.
